This stunning atmospheric event, occurs when electronically charged particles from the sun collide with one another within earths’ atmosphere, has been mesmerizing mankind for ages. Long before being named the “Aurora Borealis” by French philosopher and scientist Pierre Gassendi in 1651, they had been observed and pondered over by generation after generation of people living in the northern hemisphere. This strange yet awe inspiring natural wonder certainly lives up to its official name; Aurora for the Roman ‘Goddess of the Dawn”, and Borealis, the Latin word for “The God of The North Wind”.
